Everyone tells you to visit Jaipur in winter.
October through February — the heritage walks, the cool evenings, the festival season. It's the obvious answer, and it's not wrong. But there's a version of Jaipur that almost nobody talks about. A quieter, greener, more atmospheric version — and it exists for exactly four months every year, from June to September.
This is Jaipur in monsoon. And at Om Kanta Farms, it's our favourite season on the property.

## What Happens to the Farm in Monsoon
The transformation is genuinely dramatic.
From March through May, Rajasthan is dry, dusty, and sun-bleached. The garden at Om Kanta Farms is maintained and green, but it takes effort. Then the first rains arrive — usually in late June — and within a week, the estate looks completely different.
The lawn deepens from a muted green to something almost tropical. The trees that line the boundary fill out fully, creating a canopy that didn't exist two months earlier. The plumeria flowers in the garden (the white and yellow ones near the pool) bloom hardest in the rain. And the pool — already a beautiful deep blue — picks up the grey of the monsoon sky in a way that makes it look completely different from how it photographs in bright sunlight.
It's moodier. It's richer. And it smells extraordinary — petrichor on a farm is something that city air simply cannot replicate.

## The Pool in Monsoon: An Unexpected Highlight
This surprises most guests: swimming in the rain is one of the best experiences on the property.
The water temperature in July and August sits at around 28–30°C — warmer than the air after a rain shower. So stepping into the pool when it's drizzling outside is genuinely comfortable. And there's something about being in the water while rain falls around you — the sound of it, the way it breaks the pool surface — that's difficult to describe without sounding like a hotel brochure.
What we can say is this: guests who visit in monsoon almost always say it was their favourite time. And they're almost always surprised that they feel that way.

## Why Monsoon is Perfect for Groups and Celebrations
The property feels more private than ever. Monsoon is low season by conventional wisdom — which means the road outside is quieter, the city feels further away, and the estate is genuinely hushed. For a birthday, anniversary, or reunion where the whole point is to be undisturbed, July and August deliver this better than any other time of year.
The evenings are exceptional. Once the rain stops — usually by 7 or 8pm — the air is clean, cool, and completely still. Sitting in the garden after rain, with the fairy lights on the Farmhouse Tavern reflected in the pool, is the kind of evening that doesn't need much to feel special.
The Farmhouse Tavern is at its best. There's something about a warm, amber-lit indoor space when it's raining outside that makes the Tavern feel exactly right. The fireplace, while not usually needed in August, adds to the atmosphere even unlit. Guests tend to stay longer, drink slower, and actually talk to each other.
The farm produce is at its peak. Our kitchen garden — herbs, vegetables, seasonal flowers — is at its most productive during and just after monsoon. Guests in July and August are most likely to receive a complimentary basket of fresh produce from the farm. It's a small thing, but it's the kind of detail people remember.

## The Honest Trade-offs
Monsoon is beautiful, but it's worth being clear-eyed about what it involves:
Rain is unpredictable. A sunny morning can become a heavy downpour by 3pm with no warning. The pool party you planned outdoors may need to move inside — and the Farmhouse Tavern handles this well, but it's worth being mentally prepared for flexibility.
Some evenings are overcast. The golden hour sunsets that look stunning in our winter photos don't always show up in monsoon. Some evenings are flat and grey — still atmospheric, but different.
The drive from Jaipur can be slower. Ajmer Road handles rain reasonably well, but factor in an extra 10–15 minutes on heavy rain days.
None of these are dealbreakers. They're just the honest version of what you're signing up for — and for most guests, the trade-off is absolutely worth it.

## What to Do During a Monsoon Stay
Morning: Rain is rarest in the early morning. The garden after a night of rain — dew on every leaf, the lawn spongy and fresh — is the best time for a walk around the property. Tea in the garden at 8am in August is a genuinely special experience.
Afternoon: This is peak rain time. Perfect for the pool (swimming in rain), the Tavern (reading, board games, afternoon drinks), or just staying in the suite with the windows open and listening to it fall.
Sunset and evening: Rain often eases by early evening. This is when the garden comes into its own — the green against the fading sky, the fairy lights coming on, the air perfectly cool.
Night: Monsoon nights are often completely clear — which means stars over Bhankrota, without the haze that sits over Jaipur city.
